Two One-Act Plays (1949)

Husbands are a Problem by Muriel and Sydney Box
The Man in the Bowler Hat by A A Milne

The Man in the Bowler Hat
In this one act comedy, a terribly exciting little affair happens in the humdrum life of John and Mary, a tempest in a teapot, but while it lasts – well, it’s high comedy, at least for the audience!

Newbury Weekly News review

An enjoyable evening’s entertainment was provided last week in the Village Hall by Compton Players and Compton Choral Society. The former presented two one-act plays, Husbands are a Problem, by Muriel and Sidney Box, in which an all-female cast, comprising Mesdames Dolan, Pearse, Maskell, Hill, Simmons, Webb, and Johns gave point to this neat comedy; and The Man in the Bowler Hat, by A A Milne. This farcical play called forth creditable performances from Mesdames Morris, N Pearse and Maskell. Between presentations the choir sang a group of nine part-songs ranging in period of composition from di Lasso to Vaughan Williams.
